BREAKING: Devin Williams Chooses New Playing Destination
The New York Mets just landed one of the biggest bullpen names on the market, and they paid like it.
According to multiple reports, Devin Williams is signing a three-year contract worth more than fifty million dollars to join the New York Mets, giving the club a major late-inning weapon and reuniting the former Milwaukee standout with David Stearns.
Williams arrives in Queens after a rocky season with the New York Yankees, where he struggled to a 4.79 ERA but continued to post elite strikeout numbers that suggest a strong bounce-back case.
Mets add Devin Williams to reshape late innings
Reports indicate the deal pays around fifteen million dollars per season plus a six million dollar signing bonus, with deferrals built into the structure.
Despite the inflated earned-run average, Williams still struck out ninety batters in sixty-two innings and owned a top ten strikeout rate among all qualified relievers. His postseason performance was even better, delivering four scoreless outings and rediscovering the swing-and-miss changeup that once made him one of baseball’s most dominant closers.
The Mets are banking on that version returning, not the one who lost the ninth-inning role in the Bronx.

What does this mean for the Mets bullpen picture?
The move also raises one massive question: who handles the ninth? Longtime closer Edwin Diaz remains a free agent, creating the possibility that Williams instantly becomes the new finisher at Citi Field.
However, some insiders believe a Diaz reunion still remains on the table, which could slot Williams into an overpowering setup role and give the Mets one of baseball’s fiercest late-inning duos.
Before his struggles in 2025, Williams was a two-time All-Star, two-time National League Reliever of the Year, and posted a dominant 2.45 career ERA with eighty-six saves, plus his historic 0.33 ERA Rookie of the Year campaign in 2020.
