MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Third Basemen In Free Agency This Offseason
The World Series is done and goes into the record books as one of the greatest of all-time. But now reality is setting in as teams across baseball will get serious about improving their rosters for a chance at glory in 2026. Free agency is upon us, and it’s time for a look at some of the biggest names available at the hot corner.
Alex Bregman, Boston Red Sox
Bregman didn't land the type of nine-figure deal he hoped to sign last offseason, so he has now activated his opt out from his Red Sox contract, looking to cash in big this time around. After showing the kind of leadership and production the BoSox had hoped for, they will be a strong contender to bring him back, but it’ll be costly, as there will be other serious suitors. He launched 18 homers in just 114 games with Boston, and posted an .821 OPS, his highest in six seasons.
Munetaka Mirakami, NPB
The 6’2” Japanese slugger is getting posted by the Yakult Swallows in Japan, and MLB teams have been clamouring for him for years. He has 256 home runs, at the ripe young age of 25. Murakami launched 56 bombs for the Swallows in 2022 and has added another 88 over the past three seasons, though he missed half the season in 2025. This year, he blasted 22 HRs in only 56 games, with a 1.043 OPS.
4 teams are already said to be serious suitors, including the New York Yankees, NY Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Seattle Mariners.
Eugenio Suarez, Seattle Mariners
Speaking of the Mariners, Suarez just completed his second tour of duty with the team, after they traded for him at the deadline. He produced plenty of power in his return engagement in the Pacific Northwest, but his contact troubles returned, and he hit less than .200 with an OPS under .700. The Mariners aren’t interested in bringing him back. At age 34, with his history of strikeout troubles, he probably won’t be able to land a contract of more than a year in term.
