MLB News: Red Sox Corner Man Among 7 New Players to Hit The Free Agent Market

We all know about the big names that will be in demand in free agency this winter, including Kyle Tucker, Pete Alonso, Bo Bichette, Dylan Cease, etc.

But on Saturday, seven new names hit the free agent market, as these players have elected free agency after being outrighted off their team’s 40-man rosters.

For Toro, he spent much of the season as an emergency fill-in at first base for the Red Sox, after Triston Casas went down to a season-ending injury. He did his best in a tough situation, but eventually was replaced when the BoSox traded for Nathaniel Lowe to take over at first, and Toro was eventually DFA'd. He's a seven-year veteran with a career 81 OPS+.

De La Cruz hits free agency after spending year with Yankees' AAA team

De La Cruz is a veteran outfielder who began 2025 with the Atlanta Braves on a one-year deal, but was eventually waived and claimed by the Yankees. He spent the rest of the season with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He averaged 20 home runs a year over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, mostly with the Miami Marlins.

Leody Taveres is a terrific defensive center fielder with plenty of speed. He spent most of his six years in the majors with the Texas Rangers, but they placed him on waivers this year and he was claimed by the Mariners. He was eventually DFA'd, however.

Hernandez is a six-year veteran who spent the first five years of his career with the Kansas City Royals. Working mostly out of the bullpen, he has a career 5.14 ERA. He was DFA'd by the Tigers in late July, and wound up with the Guardians, where he pitched just seven innings in relief.

Ramirez is a 14-year veteran who has bounced between starting and relieving, and spent a bit of time with the Twins this season.
