Milwaukee Brewers Claim Left-Handed Pitcher Off Waivers

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Sammy Peralta pitches during 2025 game.

The Milwaukee Brewers made a quiet-but-savvy move, as they claimed Sammy Peralta off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels

Peralta, a 27-year-old lefty, owns a 5.12 ERA across 30 MLB relief outings, but his profile offers more than the stat line suggests. Milwaukee gains a left-handed depth arm with one minor-league option remaining, the kind of flyer this front office has turned into value before.

Why Sammy Peralta makes sense
Peralta isn’t a power arm, averaging around 89 mph, yet he brings noteworthy traits: strong extension, an above-average chase rate, and a barrel rate that has stayed stingy in small samples.

He has toggled between slider, changeup, and a newer sinker look, giving the Brewers’ pitching group levers to pull. With Jared Koenig and Aaron Ashby penciled in and others competing for roles, Milwaukee can stash Peralta, test mixes, and see if the slider-sinker pairing plays up.

Milwaukee’s track record with cast-off arms
This is the exact lane where Milwaukee thrives.

Grant Anderson arrived with rough numbers and became a useful bullpen piece (3.23 ERA) after tweaks to shape and approach. Peralta’s option year, deceptive slot, and workable Stuff+ baseline create a low-risk path to a possible 2026 bullpen role.
