MLB Rumors: Surprise Team Linked To Edwin Diaz This Offseason
Díaz, who posted a 1.63 ERA, 28 saves, and 98 strikeouts across 66.1 innings in 2025, remains one of the most dominant relievers in baseball. While he still has two years and $37 million left on his contract, multiple insiders, including Jon Heyman, have indicated he’s “almost sure” to test free agency, with Spotrac projecting his market at roughly four years and $70 million.

Braves a Landing Spot for Edwin Diaz
For the Braves, the move makes perfect sense. With Raisel Iglesias likely departing in free agency, Díaz would bring both stability and intimidation to the ninth inning.
Atlanta’s bullpen struggled with consistency last season, and adding one of the game’s premier closers from a division rival would be a statement of intent.
As Murray put it, “stealing the Mets’ best reliever—and one of the top closers in baseball—would be all too tempting.”
The Braves have the financial flexibility to make such a deal work and the motivation to strengthen a roster still built to contend for championships.

Meanwhile, the Mets are expected to offer Díaz a qualifying offer worth $22 million to encourage his return, though general manager David Stearns has historically been hesitant to overspend on relievers.
If Díaz decides to explore the open market, the Braves could quickly emerge as one of the most aggressive suitors.
