MLB Rumors: Insider Lists 4 Players Likely To Get Overpaid This Offseason
Every MLB offseason delivers its share of contracts that stretch logic, and this winter could be no different.
According to insider Robert Murray of Fansided, four names stand out as players poised to receive deals that could be considered overpays in the near future: Kyle Schwarber, Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, and Ranger Suárez.
Kyle Schwarber’s Market Set for a Bidding War
Schwarber is coming off another massive power season and will be one of the most coveted bats on the market.
Murray expects the Philadelphia Phillies to push hard to re-sign him, while the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, and other big-market teams circle.
A contract north of Teoscar Hernández’s three-year, $66 million deal once felt like a fair target, but Murray now predicts Schwarber could blow past that figure thanks to an inevitable bidding war.

Alex Bregman’s Price Could Get Irrational
In Boston, Bregman has thrived since joining the Red Sox, becoming both a lineup anchor and a clubhouse leader.
Murray believes his strong performance in a big market, paired with agent Scott Boras’s knack for maximizing value, will push his price into “irrational” territory. The Sox may have to overpay if they want to keep him, with plenty of suitors ready to drive up the cost.
"If you like the people you're coming to work with every day, and the city embraces you and appreciates you, and you get a fair deal, there's no reason to do anything else."

Bichette and Suárez Also in Line for Lucrative Deals
While he’s flown under the radar, Bo Bichette enters free agency as one of the top shortstops available.
Murray expects him to command a nine-figure deal, pointing to his career .294 batting average and bounce-back 2025 season as evidence he’ll cash in despite a down year in 2024.
On the pitching side, Ranger Suárez has positioned himself as one of the premier left-handers available. With a 2.77 ERA across 23 starts this season, Murray suggests demand for frontline starters will ensure Suárez lands a hefty contract, even if his track record has peaks and valleys.
