BREAKING: Former All-Star Alek Manoah DFA'd By Blue Jays
The turbulent fall from grace is now complete. In a shocking move, the Toronto Blue Jays have designated for assignment former All-Star and Cy Young Finalist Alek Manoah.
News: The #BlueJays have DFA'd Alek Manoah.

Following his sensational 2022 season, Manoah has spent the past three seasons in an explicable spiral, posting ERAs of 5.87 in 2023, an 8.69 ERA in eight minor league starts in 2024, and has spent this season trying to rehab himself back into the team's good graces.
His 2025 finishes with a DFA. The move has even caught long-time grizzled veterans of the Blue Jays beat by surprise.
His poor performance over the last few years means, in some respects, we shouldn't be shocked by this move, but it does come after he made seven starts at AAA this season with a 2.97 ERA. He also has two years of team control / arbitration eligibility remaining.
Manoah burst onto the scene in 2021, posting a 3.22 ERA for the Jays in his rookie season in 20 starts, with a 10.2 K/9. But it was 2022 when he really exploded onto the national scene, with a 16-7 record, a 2.24 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 31 starts, while finishing 3rd in Cy Young balloting.
And then there was his memorable (many would say, cocky) All-Star Game performance:
It's been all downhill since then for Manoah, finishing at rock bottom with today's DFA. It was necessary to clear a roster spot for Toronto's $92M outfielder, who has been activated off the IL.
