NY Yankees Legend Mariano Rivera Suffers Shocking Injury at Yankee Stadium
The New York Yankees' pitching injury bug in 2025 knows no bounds, apparently. Legendary reliever Mariano Rivera suffered a torn Achilles while playing at Yankee Stadium on Saturday in the team's Old Timers Game.
The unanimous Hall of Famer, who retired 12 years ago, after the 2013 season, was playing in the outfield at the time the injury occurred. It was confirmed by former teammate Roger Clemens on a radio interview after the game.

Clemens said he heard that Rivera popped his Achilles and was at the hospital. Rivera's agent, Fernando Cuza, later confirmed that Rivera tore his Achilles.
Earlier in the game, the iconic reliever pulled off another rarity, hitting a single off Andy Pettitte. Rivera was 0-for-3 in four plate appearances during his 19-year career.

The following inning, Rivera was in center field when he inexplicably fell to the ground during a Willie Randolph at-bat. He tried to get up and take a step, but was unable to.
During his career, Rivera was incredibly durable, rarely ever missing time. His only serious injury came in his penultimate season in 2012, at the age of 42, when he tore his ACL while shagging fly balls in a fluke incident during batting practice before a game. His only other season missing any notable time was back in 2003 when a strained groin caused him to miss a month.
Rivera is the only unanimous selection ever for the Baseball Hall of Fame, and is the game's all-time leader in saves (652) and ERA+ (205). He's a 13-time All-Star and a four-time World Series winner.
