MLB News: Braves Claim Pitcher with 7.73 Career ERA
He's been designated for assignment twice in his short career, has a 7.73 major league ERA, and has even spent time in Korea, but 29-year-old right-handed swingman Connor Seabold apparently has shown something that the Atlanta Braves like. They've claimed him off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, who DFA'd him last week.
The Rays have announced RHP Connor Seabold has been claimed off waivers by the Braves.

Seabold actually pitched quite well in three appearances for the Rays earlier this season, posting a 1.35 ERA in 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run.
But his work in much larger sample sizes in recent MLB seasons doesn't look so pretty. In 27 games split between starting and relieving for the Colorado Rockies in 2023, Seabold posted a 7.52 ERA, surrendering an abominable .317 batting average and even worse .935 OPS. But hey, that's Coors Field, so maybe we cut him a bit of slack.
In Boston the previous two seasons, however, in 21.1 total innings, he posted an even worse 10.55 ERA with a .400 batting average against, and an 1.180 OPS.
But again, the Braves are willing to give him a shot. Perhaps it's the solid 2022 at Triple-A Worcester in the Red Sox system, when he posted a 3.32 ERA in 19 starts, or his excellent numbers with Samsung in the KBO in Korea last year, when he put up a 3.43 ERA with a 158:40 strikeout to walk ratio in 160 innings.
He'll start his Braves journey at Triple-A Gwinnett. His numbers at Triple-A Durham in the Rays system this season weren't pretty, with a 6.49 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 57:26 K:BB ratio over 61 innings.
