Brewers Sign Starting Pitcher & Immediately Thrust Him Into Game Action

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Erick Fedde pitches during 2025 game.

The Milwaukee Brewers wasted no time putting newly signed right-hander Erick Fedde to work.

Hours after inking a one-year deal on Wednesday, the veteran pitcher was activated and thrust straight into action against the Arizona Diamondbacks as the club scrambled to cover innings amid a wave of injuries.

Brewers Sign Fedde & Put Him Into Game Immediately

Fedde, who had already been cut loose by the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves this year, joined Milwaukee as his third team of the season. Instead of easing him into a bullpen role, the Brewers immediately slotted him behind opener Aaron Ashby in a piggyback start.

Fedde threw 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks. While he absorbed his 13th loss of the season in the 3-2 defeat, the Brewers valued his ability to eat innings on short notice during a grueling 19-game-in-18-day stretch.

It’s been a turbulent 2025 campaign for the 32-year-old. Fedde went 3-10 with a 5.22 ERA in 20 starts for St. Louis before being dealt to Atlanta, where he posted an 8.10 ERA in five appearances.

Wednesday’s outing brought his combined season line to a 5.71 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and 78 strikeouts in 129.1 innings. Still, Milwaukee has a history of finding unexpected value in reclamation projects, and Fedde could stabilize their rotation depth while All-Star closer Trevor Megill and others recover from injuries.
