Blue Jays Get Unexpected News on Anthony Santander

Anthony Santander swings the bat

In a turn of events that could bring some added punch to the lineup, the Toronto Blue Jays are now confident that slugger Anthony Santander could actually return before the season is out.

The former 40-homer man is doing full baseball activities this weekend, per Ben Nicholson-Smith, including hitting on the field, running & fielding drills. He’ll travel with Jays to Cincinnati for their mid-week series this coming week, after which the hope is that he will begin a rehab assignment next weekend.

The hope is that he can return later in September.

Santander has been out since the end of May with left shoulder inflammation.

After a 44-HR All-Star season for the Baltimore Orioles in 2024, the 30-year-old slugger signed a 5-year, $92.5 million contract with the Jays, but has batted just .179 this season in 50 games, with only six home runs and 18 RBIs.

The Jays' lineup has more than survived without him, but his addition for the final games of the regular season and into the playoffs would be a huge bonus, especially if he can regain his power form.
