MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox Interested In 3 Starting Pitchers
The Boston Red Sox are prioritizing starting pitching upgrades as the trade deadline approaches, with multiple reports linking them to top arms Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins.
Red Sox Pursuing Diamondbacks Duo
The Diamondbacks have already begun selling off veterans, moving Josh Naylor and Randal Grichuk and are expected to deal third baseman Eugenio Suárez next. That makes pending free agents Gallen and Kelly logical trade chips.

Gallen, 29, has struggled in 2025, posting a 5.60 ERA and seeing his strikeout rate dip to 22.1%, but his track record and affordable $13.5M salary make him an intriguing rebound candidate. Kelly, 36, has been the steadier option with a 3.22 ERA, 23.5% strikeout rate, and strong command. He’s also cost-efficient at $7M this season.
Alcantara Watch Continues
Alcantara, the 2022 NL Cy Young winner, is returning from Tommy John surgery and has had mixed results, holding a 6.36 ERA over 109 innings. However, the 29-year-old right-hander has impressed in recent starts and is under team control through 2027, making him a high-upside target.
The Marlins are reportedly seeking “two elite prospects” for Alcantara and have told teams not to finalize deals without circling back to them.
If today was Zac Gallen's final start as an Arizona Diamondback, we owe him a massive thank you for what he has done with the franchise

Boston’s Rotation Needs Urgency
Injuries to Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, and Patrick Sandoval have left Garrett Crochet as Boston’s lone reliable starter. Walker Buehler (5.72 ERA) and Lucas Giolito (4.19 FIP) have struggled with consistency, and Brayan Bello’s underlying metrics suggest regression.
