MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Land Eugenio Suarez in Proposed Trade

The New York Yankees are still scrambling to find a legitimate option at third base this season. With Oswaldo Cabrera out for the year, Jazz Chisholm rightfully back at second base, and two-time former batting champion DJ LeMahieu released after being no longer able to play third, the search is intensifying as we approach the trade deadline.

Oswald Peraza is currently at the hot corner for the Yanks, and he's hitting .151 with a .215 on-base and a .462 OPS.

The top bat at 3B on the trade market, by far, would be the Arizona Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez--if they decide to sell.

Suarez is having a massive season as he prepares to head into free agency this winter. The All-Star slugger has a whopping 29 home runs already and would be a massive boost to the Yankees' lineup.

What would the Yankees have to give up to land Eugenio Suarez?

With that, we have a proposed trade offered up by Jim Riley of Ballcap Sports, that would see Suarez don the Pinstripes. The return isn't massive for Arizona, as Suarez is just a two-month rental.

NY Yankees receive:

  • Eugenio Suarez, 3B

Arizona Diamondbacks receive:

  • Kyle Carr, LHP (No. 18 NYY prospect per MLB Pipeline)
  • TJ Rumfield, 1B (No. 31 NYY prospect per FanGraphs)

The Bronx Bombers would get a slugging third baseman to seriously juice up their lineup, and he'll likely continue to excel, perhaps even more, in Yankee Stadium.

Carr, a 23-year-old lefty, is currently at High-A ball, and was a 3rd round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft. He's pitching to a 2.37 ERA this season, and has a later-2026 ETA.

Rumfield is much closer to the big leagues. The 6'4" contact-hitting first baseman is 25, and is having an impressive year at Triple-A, with a .297/.376/.483 slash line for an .858 OPS, with 10 homers and 60 RBIs in 80 games.

As Riley notes, that's six years of team control for each of those prospects going to the desert, while the Yanks get two months (and hopefully a long playoff run) from Suarez before he hits free agency.

Who says no to this deal?
