MLB Trade Rumors: New Suitor Emerges For Diamondbacks Eugenio Suarez

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez reacts after at-bat in 2025 game.

The New York Mets have officially joined the race for Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The All-Star third baseman is arguably the top bat available at this year’s trade deadline, and his appeal continues to grow with contenders like the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Seattle Mariners already in the mix. Suárez leads the National League with 36 home runs and 86 RBIs and would immediately solve a glaring hole in the Mets’ lineup.

While New York’s primary need is bullpen help, GM David Stearns appears willing to address the lineup's lack of production in the five-through-nine spots. Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio have all failed to claim third base, making Suárez a clear upgrade.

The 33-year-old has been especially lethal with runners in scoring position, hitting .286 with a .998 OPS and 66 RBIs in those spots, exactly what the Mets have lacked in key moments this season.

With Arizona still on the playoff bubble, it’s unclear if they’ll commit to selling. But if they do, a full-blown bidding war could erupt. Suárez’s fit in Flushing, batting fifth behind Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, makes him an ideal trade target.
