MLB Trade Rumors: Stunning New #1 on Trade Board
The Athletic has released the updated edition of its MLB trade deadline Big Board, and there's a stunning new No. 1 name atop the list. According to the compilation from the publication, Minnesota Twins ace starter Joe Ryan heads up the list just one week before the trade deadline.
Teams are calling on Ryan, and we've learned from insider Ken Rosenthal that the “Twins are open to discussing" the ace right-hander. He is under team control for two more seasons after this, and just earned his first All-Star appearance. Ryan has a career 3.67 ERA, but has elevated his game to a whole new level this season, with a 2.63 ERA and 0.90 WHIP, with a sensational 132:23 strikeout to walk ratio in 116.1 innings.
The Twins would have to be "blown away" by an offer, writes The Athletic.
The rest of the Top 10 on The Athletic's Big Trade Board looks like this:
- Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins
- Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox
- Eugenio Suarez, Arizona Diamondbacks
- Emmanuel Clase, Cleveland Guardians
- Wilyer Abreu, Boston Red Sox
- Jhoan Duran, Minnesota Twins
- Seth Lugo, Kansas City Royals
- Merrill Kelly, Arizona Diamondbacks
- Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins
- Griffin Jax, Minnesota Twins
Diamondbacks, beset by bad luck this year, are nearly resigned to selling now. Eugenio Suarez, Josh Naylor, Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen are all free agents, and talks will presumably start getting serious soon.

The Red Sox are clinging to a Wild Card spot, so it's highly unlikely that Duran gets dealt. He's still under team control for three more seasons after this one. Abreu is also an unlikely piece to move. He has four more years of control.
The Twins, with two other names in the top 10 in addition to Ryan, will be one of the busiest teams. One recent proposed trade would see closer Jhoan Duran going to the Dodgers.
Other names that we've heard plenty of in recent days, are just a little farther down The Athletic's Trade Board, including Edward Cabrera, Mitch Keller, Brandon Lowe, Ryan O'Hearn and Cedric Mullins (these three teams make the most sense for Mullins).
It's going to be a busy week ahead.
