Breaking MLB Trade: Blue Jays Acquire High-Leverage Reliever

The Baltimore Orioles sell-off continues, and the Toronto Blue Jays have landed themselves a high-leverage reliever, acquiring RHP Seranthony Dominguez for prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. The deal was completed in the middle of a double-header between the two teams at Camden Yards. Dominguez was told to head over to the visitor's clubhouse.

Dominguez, 30, has a bit of closing experience, with 40 career saves. This season in Baltimore, he has a 3.24 ERA while striking out 11.7 batters per nine (K/9). He's allowing only a .212 batting average against, and a .638 OPS. He's in the 95th percentile in Whiff %, and 94th in Fastball Velo (97.8 mph). He also recorded 10 saves last season with the Orioles.

Dominguez does walk his fair share, averaging a career-worst 5.2 BB/9 this season. That has left his WHIP at a mediocre 1.34 mark.

He was actually called on by the Jays in the second game of that double bill, and went out and struck out two of his former Orioles teammates in a scoreless inning.

But reports are that Toronto is not finished beefing up the bullpen yet, as insider Mark Feinsand tells us that they are also interested in St. Louis Cardinals flamethrower Ryan Helsley.

Watts-Brown was the Jays' No. 10 prospect, and the starting pitcher is having a strong season in the minors, averaging 11.6 K/9 across 89 innings in A and AA ball. The 23-year-old was a third-round pick in the 2023 Draft.
