MLB Trade Rumors: 6 Infield Trade Targets for NY Yankees
For the New York Yankees, asking "Who's on second? Who's on third?" is not an Abbott & Costello routine. It's everyday life this season for the Bronx Bombers. Currently, Jazz Chisholm (when he's not hurt) is playing the hot corner, while DJ LeMahieu (when he's not hurt) is at second base. But they could use some depth at the positions, and with the trade deadline now six weeks away, we'll take a look at some options.
According to insider Jim Bowden in The Athletic, "The Yankees would like an offensive upgrade for both DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza and can do so at either second or third base since Jazz Chisholm Jr. is willing to play either position."
Who could the Yankees target on trade market for infield help?
With that, here are Bowden's six top targets for New York in the infield:
- Brendan Donovan, St. Louis Cardinals
- Brandon Lowe, Tampa Bay Rays
- Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays;
- Luis Arraez, San Diego Padres
- Eugenio Suárez, Arizona Diamondbacks
- Ryan McMahon, Colorado Rockies
And with McMahon having the worst season of his nine-year career, it might all come down to the Cardinals' willingness to throw in the towel at some point and be willing to trade Donovan. He consistently gets on base at a high rate, and has been a solid performer for the Cards in his four seasons, with a career .285 average (.310 this season) and a .778 OPS (.819 this year). He would certainly be a great fit for what the Yankees are looking for, both defensively & offensively.
