MLB Trade Rumors: 4 Top Fits At Deadline for Nationals Closer Kyle Finnegan

One of the most sought-after needs at the trade deadline is always bullpen help. High-leverage relievers are a key commodity in shortening games in the playoffs, to try to keep ace starters sharp and opposing batters flummoxed.

Kyle Finnegan is currently tied for 3rd in baseball with 18 saves in 23 opportunities, and has a 2.96 ERA to boot. Last year, he racked up 38 saves in 43 opps and was the Washington Nationals' All-Star representative.

Let's take a look at four top fits for Finnegan at the deadline, per Mark Feinsand of mlb.com.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Jays are 24th in baseball in ERA from the 8th inning on, with a 4.41 mark. While closer Jeff Hoffman does have 17 saves in 20 opps, he also carries a 5.52 ERA, while their ideal setup man Yimi Garcia has been out for two months. Adding Finnegan would be a solid boost to the back end of their bullpen.

Philadelphia Phillies

A team that's always looking for help in the bullpen, that's been exacerbated for the Phillies as they've lost Jose Alvarado to an 80-game suspension until late August. And even then, he won't be eligible for the postseason.

New York Mets

The Mets have been doing just fine in the late innings, with three solid options, but hey, another proven closer is never a bad thing for a team with visions of a deep playoff run.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds are well into the bottom half of MLB in relief ERA from the 7th inning on. They traded away their former All-Star closer Alexis Diaz, and the current man in the job, Emilio Pagan, while having a great season, could implode at any moment. He hasn't been relied on as a full-time closer over an entire season... since... well, ever.
