MLB Rumors: Twins Star Outfielder Byron Buxton Named Dream Target For NL Team

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton celebrates during 2025 game.

The Philadelphia Phillies are surging, but even a contender has soft spots, and center field is one of them.

That’s why Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is emerging as a dream trade target ahead of the deadline, according to Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report. With the Twins sliding toward seller territory and Buxton staying healthy and productive, the timing could be perfect.

He’s slashing .280/.344/.556 with a .900 OPS in 59 games and still flashing Gold Glove-caliber defense, making him a major upgrade over the current Marsh-Rojas tandem in Philly.

Buxton’s Contract and Injury History Still Worth the Gamble

Buxton’s durability has long been a concern, he’s only topped 100 games once since 2017, but when he's in the lineup, he changes games. He’s under contract through 2028 at a reasonable $15.1 million AAV and has full no-trade protection.

Still, a chance to compete for a World Series could persuade him to waive it. With Minnesota sitting below .500 and eyeing the future, offloading Buxton and promoting top prospects like Emmanuel Rodriguez could make sense.

Dombrowski Has the Prospects to Make It Happen

President of baseball ops Dave Dombrowski loves star power, and the Phillies have the prospects to strike a deal. A package involving Johan Rojas or Brandon Marsh with a young pitcher like Mick Abel or Moises Chace could interest the Twins, especially if they’re willing to send over a bullpen arm like Danny Coulombe in return.
