MLB Rumors: Mets Urged NOT To Trade For Three Specific Players

New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza reacts during 2025 game.

The New York Mets are walking a fine line this season.

With a win-now roster built by Steve Cohen’s deep pockets, expectations are sky-high in Queens. But as the trade deadline looms, Fansided’s Zach Pressnell has cautioned the Mets not to let desperation lead them into costly mistakes.

Pressnell names three players the Mets should absolutely avoid, warning that trading for them could do more harm than good.

Mets' Rotation Doesn’t Need Andrew Heaney or Erick Fedde

Despite outside chatter linking the Mets to starting pitchers, Pressnell makes it clear: New York’s rotation isn’t the issue. Pittsburgh Pirates lefty Andrew Heaney might be having a solid year, but the Mets already have more than five capable starters, with reinforcements on the way.

Pressnell argues that unless they’re landing a true ace like Paul Skenes, which isn’t happening, they should avoid clogging the depth chart with mid-tier arms.

He extends that logic to St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Erick Fedde. Although Fedde is affordable and likely available, his underlying metrics are a red flag.

Pressnell notes his xERA and xBA are among the worst in baseball, suggesting a major regression is coming. For a Mets team that’s pitching well already, adding Fedde would be a misstep.

Luis Robert Jr. Isn't the Fix for the Mets’ Outfield

The third player Pressnell advises the Mets to avoid is Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr.

While his tools remain intriguing, his production has plummeted down to a .580 OPS in 2025. Once considered a blockbuster acquisition, Robert’s value has cratered, and Pressnell believes the Mets would be taking an unnecessary gamble.

Even if the price is low, the Mets can’t afford to waste time hoping for a turnaround when every game matters in the NL East race.
