VIDEO: Two Minnesota Twins Crack Heads In Scary, Violent Collision
This was not a scene that the Minnesota Twins could afford. In a frightening, violent collision while chasing after a pop-up, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa cracked heads and both have entered concussion protocol.

In the third inning of today's game between the Twins and Baltimore Orioles, O's outfielder Cedric Mullins lofted a shallow fly ball to short center. While the shortstop Correa backed up to attempt to make the play, Buxton was charging in from center field. Even though Correa seemed to get called off and stopped at the last second, it was too late to avoid the collision, and their heads knocked together.
The replay shows that Buxton's chin hit Correa's shoulder, and their heads then snapped into each-other in a whiplash like motion.

Buxton, who somehow held on to the ball for the catch, originally remained in the game while Correa was immediately removed. But the outfielder was pulled in the next inning. Both are in concussion protocol.
Of course, this couldn't happen to a worse pair of players for the Twins, not only because of their importance to the team, but also each player's lengthy injury history. Correa played just 86 games last year, while Buxton has only cracked the 100-game mark once in his last seven seasons.
Buxton is having a terrific season, not only because he's actually played in 40 of the Twins' 44 games thus far, but he is also posting an OPS of .834, while leading the team with 10 homers, 27 RBIs and eight stolen bases. He had just hit a home run in the top of the 3rd inning before the collision in the bottom of the inning.
Correa's year hasn't been going quite as well, with a .236 average, a .605 OPS and just two longballs and 13 RBIs in 41 games.
The Twins will have to await further observation of the two players before knowing when they could return to the lineup.
Minnesota won the game 4-0, and has extended its great run to an 11-game win streak, moving to 25-20, tied with the KC Royals in third place in the suddenly very competitive AL Central.
