MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Bullpen Replacements For Phillies (& Name Already Under Consideration)

Kenley Jansen is one of 3 potential additions for the Phillies to explore for their bullpen opening.

The Philadelphia Phillies got some tough news this past weekend, as closer Jose Alvarado was hit with an 80-game suspension, and will not be able to pitch in the playoffs. They've got some work to do to beef up the back end of their bullpen.

They're hoping that Jordan Romano has found his mojo once again as a closer, as the former Toronto Blue Jay has recorded seven straight scoreless innings, with three saves. But with Romano moving up a notch, it creates an opening. Let's have a look at three top bullpen replacements for the Phillies.

Could the Phillies bring back David Robertson?

David Robertson, Free Agent

The 40-year-old veteran has been nothing short of awesome the past few seasons, as he's beaten Father Time by posting a combined 40 saves and an ERA of 2.81 for five different teams.

And we're hearing that the Phillies have already reached out to the free agent workhorse.

Philly is familiar with Robertson, as he spent a couple of months with them in 2022 after being acquired at the trade deadline, and he posted a 2.70 ERA with them in 23 innings, with six saves. He'd be an ideal fit, if they can meet his price.

Anthony Bender, Miami Marlins

Bender is having a terrific season for the Fish, with a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings, with a 1.00 WHIP, and surrendering a stingy .167 batting average. Miami, once again, is going nowhere this season, and they will be sellers. According to mlb.com's Mark Feinsand, "Miami president of baseball operations Peter Bendix dealt Luis Arraez in early-May last year, so he’s shown a willingness to move players earlier than most clubs might consider."

Kenley Jansen, LA Angels

Baseball's leading active Saves King, Jansen is 37, and doesn't have quite the stuff he used to have, but he keeps on piling up the saves. Nine more this season with the Angels thus far. But as Feinsand notes, the Halos haven't quite waved the white flag just yet, as they're only 4.0 games back of a Wild Card spot. If the Phils can wait until closer to the trade deadline at the end of July, we're fairly certain the Angels will be ready to sell at that point.
