MLB Trade Rumors: Nolan Arenado Lands With Yankees In Predicted Deal
Nolan Arenado has been on the trade block for the St. Louis Cardinals since the end of last season. He was nearly traded to the Houston Astros this past winter, but he nixed the deal by invoking his no-trade clause. Then he was nearly dealt to the Boston Red Sox, but Alex Bregman essentially put the kibosh on that near-trade when he chose to sign a big free agent contract with the BoSox.
But there's another marquee team that's in great need of a third baseman, and there's a chance that Arenado could land with the New York Yankees. At least, if Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report's prediction comes to fruition.
The Yankees have just one home run and nine RBIs out of their third basemen this season with a lowly .248 average. Oswaldo Cabrera has been manning 3rd base for the Bronx Bombers, but the 26-year-old hasn't been doing much bombing, with just the one lone longball.
Arenado, 34, whose offense seemed to be on the decline the past couple of seasons in St. Louis, has reignited his bat a bit in 2025, and although he's gone into a bit of a slump the past couple of weeks, the eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glover has his OPS at .747 with a 109 OPS+, three homers and 13 RBIs. It's definitely an upgrade from Cabrera.
Could Arenado be reuinted with Goldschmidt on the Yankees?
Coming to the Yankees would also be an intriguing reunion with Paul Goldschmidt, another aging former All-Star who Arenado was tossing across the diamond to over a four-year period when they were together with the Cardinals.
Goldy has really had a bounceback season in Pinstripes, hitting .356 with an .878 OPS.
Arenado has a reasonable contract in its final two years, at $16M and $15M in each of 2026 and 2027.
