Toronto receives cash considerations in return. They had designated the 25-year-old speedster for assignment last week.
Berroa, from the Dominican Republic, saw action in 28 games for the Blue Jays last season, and despite batting just .189 in 45 plate appearances, he still managed to swipe six bases.
He's racked up 246 steals in his eight years in the minors while scoring 347 runs in 538 games. He's stolen over 40 bases for the past four straight seasons in the minor leagues. In his brief stay in the majors last year, he was in the 89th percentile in sprint speed, per Statcast.
Berroa is not listed among the Blue Jays' top 30 prospects.
At Triple-A Buffalo this year, he was hitting .195 with nine stolen bases in 12 attempts. He had a very nice year there in 2024, however, in 300 plate appearances at AAA. He batted .281 with 10 HR, 34 SBs and an .825 OPS.
The Dodgers' immediate plans for Berroa (AAA or majors) remain to be seen.
