Star Free Agent Cuban Pitcher Holds Workout For 15 MLB Teams

Yariel Rodríguez, a 26-year-old Cuban right-handed pitcher, has been making waves in the baseball world with his recent showcase in the Dominican Republic.

Over 15 MLB teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, and others took notice of his talents during the workout.

Rodríguez's journey to this point has been intriguing, starting in Cuba and later playing in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league before defecting in pursuit of an MLB career.

His reputation was further bolstered by his role as Team Cuba's ace in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where he displayed his potential with a fastball averaging 96.2 mph and a devastating slider.

His track record and youth make him a promising prospect.

Rodríguez's best season came in 2022 in the NPB, recording a fantastic 1.15 ERA, 60 strikeouts, 18 walks, and 32 hits allowed over 54.2 innings of work.

The Giants, in particular, with available spots in their bullpen due to impending free agents, are among the teams showing keen interest in signing him, recognizing his potential as a valuable addition to their roster.

Rodríguez's journey from Cuba to Japan and now his pursuit of an MLB contract has made him an intriguing figure in international baseball.
