Brewers GM Addresses Plans For 3 Star Pending Free Agents in 2024

The Milwaukee Brewers are a small-market team. They can ill-afford to lose any of their three best players on the free agent market for nothing. But with each of Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Willy Adames all entering their final year of team control before free agency, the Brewers have some huge decisions to make this offseason.

Milwaukee GM Matt Arnold told reporters that trades will be considered this winter.

We can never close the door on any conversations, as you guys know – that's just the reality of where we are...

Obviously, anything can happen over the course of an offseason. We'll certainly have to entertain a lot of different discussions but we recognize the value of these players and how much they mean to our franchise.

Former Cy Young winner Burnes, from the outside, seems like the most likely to be traded after he expressed his disappointment with the team's actions in their arbitration hearing with him last spring. But Arnold wasn't tipping his hand on that front:

“Corbin means a ton to what we've done here. He's been a warrior on the mound. He's the guy we wanted on the mound in Game 1. He's been the guy that we want on the mound in big games. I'm thrilled that he's here. We'll see how it plays out over the course of the offseason, but I would expect him to be here next year... he is a very, very valuable member of our franchise.”

In other words: If a team wants to come get him, the price is going to be "very, very" costly. The same is likely true for Woodruff and Adames.

Should be a very interesting winter for the Brew Crew.
