Boston Red Sox Infielder Elects Free Agency

Yu Chang, a 28-year-old infielder, has officially entered free agency after his tenure with the Boston Red Sox during the past season.

Chang's journey with the Red Sox began in September 2022 when he was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.

He re-signed with the franchise in February 2023 and made appearances for the team during the 2023 season.

During his time with the Red Sox, Chang played in 39 games, posting a .160/.228/.336 triple-slash line, with six home runs, 19 RBIs, four stolen bases, and 15 runs scored across 50 games played.

Unfortunately, his season was marred by a significant setback as he suffered a fractured hamate bone in his left hand, causing him to miss almost two months of play.

Despite the offensive struggles, Chang showcased his defensive skills, primarily at shortstop.

However, when the team activated Trevor Story, Chang was designated for assignment in August. He concluded the season with the Triple-A Worcester team, where he impressively batted .313 over 12 games.

Now, as a free agent, Yu Chang is exploring new opportunities with other MLB teams.
