MLB Rumors: Free Agent Price For Blake Snell Scaring Off Padres

One of the top free agents on the trade market this offseason will be San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell. He certainly picked a great time to return to his Cy Young form, as he heads into the open market with another possible Cy, and currently a 2.52 ERA and 11.7 K/9.

But according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, one team who likely will NOT be in the running to sign Snell is the incumbent Padres, as they're seemingly scared off by his rumored asking price.

The San Diego Padres are not expected to re-sign Cy Young favorite Blake Snell, believing he could command at least $200 million on the free-agent market.

The 30-year-old won a Cy Young in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays, and hasn't really returned to that lofty status, until this year.

The Friars have spent close to one BILLION dollars on big-name players over the past couple of years, handing out a 14-year, $340 million deal to Fernando Tatis Jr, extending Manny Machado with an 11-year, $350 million contract, and handing a shocking $280 million to star shortstop Xander Bogaerts.

With the results this season being less than fulfilling, would they be up to dishing out another $200M to Snell? According to Nightengale, probably not.
