MLB Rumors: Trade Buzz Surrounds Yankees Shortstop Prospect

With the trade deadline just two+ weeks away, teams are gearing up to fortify themselves for the stretch run. The New York Yankees are one such team, and while GM Brian Cashman is still assessing what his biggest needs are (it should be obvious by now, of course), there's already one top young prospect he'll have to consider giving up.

League sources tell Yankees Insider Andy Martino that 18-year-old shortstop Roderick Arias is constantly being targeted by rival executives.

Arias is the Yankees' No. 11 prospect currently, and was baseball's top-ranked international prospect when he signed with the team in 2022. Scouts are enamored with his speed, range and arm at shortstop. This year, in the Florida Complex League, Arias is batting .277 with an elite .413 on base percentage, and a .955 OPS, along with six home runs and 11 stolen bases. He's currently on a 13-game hitting streak through Thursday.

Yankee followers are not too keen on the idea of giving him up.

Another top shortstop prospect, much closer to the majors, Oswald Peraza, is also on teams' radars.
