San Francisco Giants Catcher Suffers Shoulder Strain; IL Stint Likely

San Francisco Giants catcher Roberto Perez suffered a right shoulder strain during Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

The injury occurred in the sixth inning when Perez was trying to throw out Kyle Isbel, who was attempting to steal second base. Perez had to be taken out of the game, and his condition is currently unknown.

The severity of the injury is a cause for concern, especially since the Giants are already dealing with an injury to catcher Joey Bart.

If Perez has to go on the injured list, it will put the team's catching depth in a tough spot. In Perez's absence, Blake Sabol is expected to take over primary catching duties while Perez and Bart recover.

The team will also likely call up Austin Wynns.

Perez has struggled at the plate this season with a .133 average and only two hits in 15 at-bats. However, he is a veteran presence behind the plate and a valuable member of the Giants' roster. The team will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Perez so that he can return to action soon. Photo Credit: Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports
