San Francisco Giants Bring Back Veteran Infielder

The San Francisco Giants are bringing back an old friend, as they have signed Darin Ruf to a minor-league contract.

Ruf was a Giant from 2020 until his trade to the New York Mets this past season. However, his tenure as a Met came to a quick end before the start of this season, as he did not make their Opening Day roster and was released. Yet, now he will be aiming to turn things around as a member of the Giants again.

Following being traded to the Mets, Ruf had a .152 batting average in 28 games. Therefore, his release from New York was not particularly surprising, but now he has a new home, and he will be looking to put up a solid year because of it.

Ruf will first need to improve in the minors to have his contract selected to the Giants' 40-man roster. Overall, this is a low-risk move for the Giants, and will need to wait and see if he can earn himself a call-up from here.

In 561 career MLB games, Ruf has 67 home runs, 202 RBIs, and a .239 batting average.
