San Diego Padres Outright Pitcher

Earlier this week, Michel Baez was designated for assignment. However, he is now set to remain with the organization, as he has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso.

It was a little surprising to see that another club did not take a chance on Baez, as he is a former top prospect who has had some success in his limited major league appearances. In 29 games over his three-year MLB career, he sports a 1-1 record to go along with a 3.47 ERA. As a result, he has had some moments of being consistent, but it was still not enough for another team to take a chance on him.

Baez will now be aiming to impress in Triple-A, as it could open the door to him receiving a call-up at some point during the regular season. This is especially so if the Padres' bullpen ends up running into some trouble or deals with injuries.

Alas, we will now need to wait and see if Baez can find himself back on the Padres' 40-man roster at some point during the campaign.
