Pirates Place Veteran Catcher On 7-Day IL; Recall Catcher

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been hit with a setback as their catcher, Austin Hedges, has been placed on the 7-day concussion injured list.

The exact timing of his concussion is unknown, and there is no set timeline for his return.

In the meantime, Tyler Heineman has been called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to share catching duties with Jason Delay.

Heineman has previous experience with the Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays, having appeared in 62 games last year, with nine RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The team is expected to provide updates on Hedges' condition in the coming days.

Concussion recoveries can vary significantly, so it's unclear how long he will be out of action. In the meantime, Heineman and Delay will need to step up to the plate for the Pirates. Photo Credit: Mike Watters-USA TODAY Sports
