Los Angeles Angels Sign Former Reds Catcher

Headed to Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Angels have signed former Cincinnati Reds catcher Chris Okey to a minor-league contract.

Okey provides the Angels with some added organizational catching depth while Logan O'Hoppe and Matt Thaiss continue to take care of the catching duties at the major-league level.

Primary catcher Max Stassi has been dealing with a hip injury and a family emergency, which is why he's not available to begin the season.

The 28-year-old Okey made his MLB debut last season with the Reds, playing seven games, but spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Louisville, slashing .220/.279/.356, with two home runs, 14 RBIs, and 18 runs scored across 41 games.

He's a former second-round pick by the Reds in the 2016 MLB Draft.
