Boston Red Sox Confirm Return Date Of Talented Starting Pitcher

A much-needed return for the Boston Red Sox.

Red Sox' right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock is set to return to the field on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

He had undergone hip surgery during the offseason and has been gradually working his way back to full fitness. After a successful rehab start for Triple-A Worcester, he is scheduled to make one final minor-league appearance before being activated by the Red Sox.

While Whitlock is expected to play a crucial role in Boston's starting rotation this season, the team has taken a cautious approach to his recovery. As a result, he may not be able to pitch deep into games initially, and restrictions on his workload could limit him throughout the season.

Over his first two seasons in the majors, Whitlock has been very impressive, recording a 2.73 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 163 strikeouts over 151.2 innings of work. He's made nine starts, 68 relief appearances and converted eight saves.

Nonetheless, his return to action is a positive sign for the Red Sox as they look to bounce back from a rough start to the season. Photo Credit:  Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports
