Texas Rangers Place Five Players On IL

The Texas Rangers are gearing up for Opening Day on Thursday, and have made some final roster moves, placing five players on the injured list.

RHP Josh Sborz:

The Texas Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz on the 15-day injured list due to a sprained ankle he sustained during a workout or his final Cactus League appearance. Sborz, who was out of options, may have been at risk of not making the Opening Day roster, but the injury gives the Rangers more time to evaluate his situation. He is expected to be utilized as a middle-innings pitcher upon his return.

OF Leody Taveras:

Outfielder Leody Taveras has been added to the 10-day injured list due to a low-grade left oblique strain he suffered earlier in March. He is expected to fully recover and return to the team in mid-April. In his absence, Travis Jankowski has secured a spot on the Rangers' opening roster and will likely help fill the gap in the outfield.

RHP Spencer Howard:

Right-handed pitcher Spencer Howard has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right arm fatigue. He had been shut down in early March and is still working to build up his strength and return to regular-season form. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined, and there is no set timeframe for when he may be available to play again for the Rangers.

RHP Jake Odorizzi:

The Texas Rangers have placed right-handed pitcher Jake Odorizzi on the 60-day injured list due to issues with his right arm. Odorizzi experienced arm fatigue during the spring season and was unable to pitch for the team. There is no specific timeframe for his return to the field, but it is certain that he will miss at least the first two months of the regular season. The Rangers will have to rely on other pitchers in their rotation to fill the void left by his absence.

RHP Glenn Otto:

The Texas Rangers have placed right-handed pitcher Glenn Otto on the 60-day injured list due to a right lat muscle injury. Otto also has a right shoulder injury, and he is not scheduled to resume throwing until late April, which means he won't be able to help the Rangers until at least early June. He will be sidelined for at least the first two months of the 2023 season. Photo Credit: Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports
