NBA Rumors: 6 Names Linked To Dodgers In Search For Shortstop Help

The Los Angeles Dodgers are uncharacteristically scrambling a bit. After losing projected starting shortstop Gavin Lux for the season with a torn ACL, they have a hole to fill. Sure, they fortuitously brought in Gold Glove shortstop finalist Miguel Rojas in a trade with the Miami Marlins last month, and he'll now slide into that spot from his expected utility role.

But according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Dodgers are still on the lookout for some shortstop help. He suggests the following as names they could be pursuing:

Free agents:

  • Jose Iglesias
  • Andrelton Simmons
Possible trade targets:
  • Isiah Kiner-Falefa, New York Yankees
  • Jorge Mateo, Baltimore Orioles
  • Taylor Walls, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Nicky Lopez, Kansas City Royals
Heyman figures that any of the aforementioned four could become available in trades. All have some serious competition or very adequate replacements at short on their respective teams.

In an offseason of frugality, the Dodgers passed up on going after one of the big All-Star shortstops on the free agent market this winter: Trea Turner (their own incumbent), Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa and Dansby Swanson.

We'll see if they reach out to try and fill the void with one of the above lesser lights before Opening Day.
