Cincinnati Reds: 2 Breakout Candidates for 2023

The Cincinnati Reds are heading into the 2023 season with low expectations. This is understandable, as they are rebuilding and sport a rather weak roster because of it. However, they also have two young players who stand out as prime breakout candidates heading into this season. Let's discuss them.

Hunter Greene: Hunter Greene is viewed as having a plethora of potential and should have a long-term future in the majors because of it. However, his rookie season was a bit of a rough one in 2022, as he had a 5-13 record to go along with a 4.44 ERA in 24 appearances. Yet, as he gains more experience this season, it seems likely that his stuff will improve. Thus, he is a player to watch immensely closely.

Nick Lodolo: Nick Lodolo was also a rookie last season, but his numbers were a bit better. Although he had a 4-7 record, his 3.66 ERA shows that he had some decent moments in 2022. When noting that he is viewed as being a potential number-one or number-two starter later down the road, look for him to improve this campaign and take that next step.
