Mariners Designate Pitcher For Assignment; Claimed Him Three Weeks Ago

To the waiver wire.

The Seattle Mariners have designated pitcher J.B. Bukauskas for assignment.

Bukauskas was just claimed off waiver from the Arizona Diamondbacks in January, but now he'll lose his 40-man roster spot to Tayler Saucedo, whom the Mariners claimed off waivers on Tuesday.

He'll have to pass through waivers unclaimed if the Mariners want to keep him around, but there'll likely be some teams interested in him.

The twenty-six-year-old missed the entire 2022 season due to shoulder and hamstring injuries.

He made his major-league debut in 2021 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, it didn't go so well, as Bukauskas posted a 7.79 ERA over 21 appearances.

His minor-league career has been much better, as he has recorded a career 3.89 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 227 strikeouts over 196.2 innings of work.

Bukauskas is a former first-round pick by the Houston Astros in the 2017 MLB Draft.
