Los Angeles Angels Reliever Expresses Desire To Be Starter

He had a great season last year.

Los Angeles Angels reliever Jaime Barria has expressed his desire to become a starting pitcher for the upcoming season, after having played both starting and relief roles throughout his career.
Although Barria had a successful 2022 season as a reliever, recording a 2.61 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts to 19 walks in 79.1 innings, he wants to return to the rotation.

To improve his chances, Barria reportedly shed 13 pounds during the offseason.

The Los Angeles Angels currently lack a clear sixth starter, so Barria is a candidate for the role. However, the team plans to use its top starters every six days, meaning the sixth starter might function more as a swing pitcher rather than a regular member of the rotation.
