Blue Jays Release LHP; Posted 1.38 ERA In MLB Debut Last Season

Well, this is a bit of a surprise.

The Toronto Blue Jays have released pitcher Matt Gage.

Gage was designated for assignment last week by the Blue Jays in order to make room for newly-signed Chad Green.

Gage will now hit free agency in search of a new job after he went unclaimed on waivers.

The twenty-nine-year-old made his major league debut last season and was impressive, recording a 1.38 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts over 13 innings with the Blue Jays.

Gage spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Buffalo, where he posted an equally impressive 2.34 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts across 42.1 innings of work.

He should definitely have some teams interested in his services. It also helps that he's a left-handed pitcher.
