Washington Nationals Sign Pitcher

Joining the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals have signed pitcher Joel Peguero to a minor league contract.

Peguero was traded to the Colorado Rockies from the Tampa Bay Rays last August and elected minor league free agency this offseason.

Last season, at the Triple-A level, the twenty-five-year-old recorded a pedestrian 4.76 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 52 strikeouts across 56.2 innings of work. He made four starts, 46 relief appearances, converted one save and held a 3-1 record.

Peguero will add some relief depth to a poor Nationals' pitching core.

Peguero has yet to make his major league debut, but he holds a career 4.99 ERA and 243 strikeouts over 279.1 innings at the minor-league level.
