MLB Rumors: Angels In Pursuit Of 2-Time All-Star Slugger

The Los Angeles Angels haven't finished their offseason makeover just yet. They've now been linked to two-time All-Star free agent catcher Gary Sanchez.

According to Hector Gomez, Spanish-language MLB Insider, the Halos are showing "a lot of interest" in the former New York Yankees masher.

Sanchez has fallen on hard times over the last few seasons, and he's far from his All-Star years with the Bronx Bombers. Sanchez spent 2022 with the Minnesota Twins, where he struggled to stay over the Mendoza Line for the third straight season, hitting .205 with 16 home runs and a .659 OPS.

The 30-year-old backstop blasted 53 HR in his first 175 major league games, but now, over half a decade later, sports a nine-year lifetime average of .225, with a .778 OPS. His OPS+ hasn't been above league average since 2019.

Currently, the Angels are banking on the unproven prospect Logan O'Hoppe and veteran Max Stassi behind the plate.

The San Francisco Giants have also shown interest in Sanchez.
