Colorado Rockies Sign Veteran Left-Handed Pitcher

A solid move by the Colorado Rockies.

The Rockies have signed pitcher Fernando Abad to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.

Abad gives the Rockies some extra left-handed relief depth heading into the 2023 season.

The thirty-seven-year-old pitcher has plenty of experience and will attempt to win a spot in the Rockies' bullpen this season.

Last season, Abad registered a serviceable 3.56 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 32 strikeouts over 43 innings with Triple-A Tacoma in the Seattle Mariners' system.

The southpaw last pitched in the majors in the 2021 season with the Baltimore Orioles, compiling an ugly 5.60 ERA over 17.2 innings of work.

It's a low-risk signing for Colorado and, at worst, Abad will spend the season with the organization's Triple-A affiliate.
