St. Louis Cardinals Sign All-Star Catcher

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Willson Contreras to a five-year, $87.5 million contract.

Since the beginning of the offseason, the Cardinals were linked to Contreras, and it is easy to understand why. Longtime catcher Yadier Molina officially retired at the end of the season, so the Cardinals needed to find his replacement. Now they have an excellent one in Contreras to do just that.

Contreras is a player that the Cardinals have seen a lot of over the years, as he of course was with the Chicago Cubs for several seasons. Yet, now he is joining the other side of their rivalry – much to the dismay of Cubs fans.

Contreras will provide the Cardinals with more pop and a legitimate All-Star catcher. Overall, this is a very big move for St. Louis, but don’t expect them to be done just yet. Let’s see what other additions they make to their roster from here.
