MLB Rumors: Twins Could Look To Deal AL Batting Champion

The Minnesota Twins still have plenty of goals in mind for the offseason, with the signing of catcher Christian Vazquez a nice add, but not the end of their moves this winter.

According to a report from Dan Hayes in The Athletic, teams have been calling on two of their starting pitchers: Sonny Gray and Kenta Maeda. Both are in the final years of their contracts and will become free agents after next season.

With the loss of Carlos Correa to the San Francisco Giants ("make no mistake: this one hurts", laments Hayes), they're trying to pivot to signing shortstop Dansby Swanson. They also have interest in free agent pitcher Carlos Rodon. But if all of that doesn't work, they could look to the trade market to try to land an impact player.

Hayes notes that the word from the Twins' front office is that they would "consider" packaging Gray and Maeda with AL batting champion Luis Arraez to land "a prominent pitcher."

Could still be a busy winter ahead for the Twin Cities.
