MLB Rumors: A Reunion Could Be Coming For Johnny Cueto

Johnny Cueto is a 15-year major league veteran with experience with four different ballclubs. A new report raises the possibility of a return to the city where he had some of his greatest success.

According to MLB Insider Jon Morosi, the Cincinnati Reds have expressed interest in a reunion with Cueto. The Dominican Republic native pitched for the Reds in his first eight seasons in the majors, and posted an elite 3.21 ERA in over 200 starts, with a 92-63 record, and a 1.16 WHIP.

Cueto was an All-Star in his final full season in Cinci in 2014, pitching a league-leading 243 innings with 242 strikeouts, while going 20-9 with a 2.25 ERA and finishing 2nd in Cy Young balloting. He was an All-Star again in 2017 with the San Francisco Giants.

Entering his age-37 season in 2023, Cueto had a nice comeback season with the Chicago White Sox in 2022, posting a 3.35 ERA in 158 innings, with a 102:33 K/BB ratio.

An AL East contender is another team linked to Cueto this offseason.
