MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox Star Becoming Trade Candidate

Right when it seemed that the Boston Red Sox were about to have a big offseason, they lost superstar shortstop Xander Bogaerts to the San Diego Padres via free agency. There's no denying it, this is a major blow to a team that finished last in the AL East last season. Things may get worse before they get better, too, as they have another star in Rafael Devers who is able to become a UFA next offseason.

If the Red Sox are unable to sign Devers to a long-term deal, he will immediately become their biggest trading piece. Boston cannot afford to lose another superstar for nothing. Instead, look for the Red Sox to trade Devers in a similar fashion as they did with Mookie Betts before his UFA status.

Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see what happens with Devers from here. If negotiations do not go well this offseason, don't be surprised to see Boston move him instead of risking the chance of losing another elite player for nothing.
