MLB Rumors: Houston Astros Interested In All-Star Outfielder

The Houston Astros have already made their presence felt this offseason, with the signing of veteran first baseman, and former MVP, Jose Abreu. Now they're setting their sights on another All-Star, according to the latest report.

The defending World Series champs have had some discussions with Benintendi, which would dovetail with an earlier report from Ken Rosenthal that they are looking for a left-handed hitting corner outfielder. Michael Brantley has filled that role for the 'Stros since 2019, but he's now a free agent, going into his age-36 season, spent much of this past year injured, and is still recovering from season-ending shoulder surgery.

Benintendi began his 2022 season with the Kansas City Royals, where he hit .320 and was selected to his first All-Star Game. He went to the New York Yankees at the trade deadline and finished the year hitting .304 with a career-high .373 on-base percentage. The Yanks are known to want him back; it would be another stinging blow to lose him to the rival Astros.

The 28-year-old is also a Gold Glove outfielder (2021), and would be yet another upgrade for the defending champions.
