Injury Update On Blue Jays Starter

His season was cut short.

Toronto Blue Jays starter Hyun Jin Ryu said on Wednesday that he's targeting a July return from Tommy John surgery.

Ryu said he's on schedule in his rehab from last June's left elbow surgery and will continue his recovery in the U.S. after spending the past month at home in South Korea.

Ryu was limited to just six brutal starts this past season before being shut down for the season. In 2021, the thirty-five-year-old posted a 4.37 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 143 strikeouts over 169 innings of work.

The veteran pitcher has a good chance to slot in as the team's No. 5 starter this season behind Alek Manoah, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt.
